Background
The Women in Engineering Leadership Enhancement, Application and Design Academies have been created to provide students with the opportunity to spend a day learning and applying principles related to a particular engineering discipline found at the University of Maryland. 

Criteria
Rising juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply.  Talented rising sophomores may be accepted on a case by case basis.  This program is open to young men and women.

2009 Academies

We are pleased to offer six academies in 2009!

Each program will begin at 9:00am and conclude at 4:00pm unless otherwise specified in student acceptance materials.

Each academy is $50.

Past Academies have included:
- Aerospace Engineering
- Bioengineering
- Electrical and Computer Engineering
- Fire Protection Engineering
- Materials Science and Engineering

Application

  • Applications for the WIE LEAD Academies are now available online.
  • Teacher Recommendation - Please ask the teacher to write a recommendation on school letterhead, describing your interests and capabilities. Recommendations should be mailed in a signature-sealed envelope.
