Girl Scout Engineering Saturday (GSES) is a program for local Girl Scout troops in Maryland and the Washington metropolitan area. Cadettes and Seniors (grades 7-12) engage in fun hands-on activities and earn the Building a Better Future Project patch. This program is offered twice a year in February and October.
Goals of GSES
- To expose Girl Scout Troops to engineering related activities
- To introduce young women to professional career options in engineering or science
- To provide university students with the chance to develop and implement engineering
related activities, and to enhance their communication and leadership skills

Program Schedule
The Girl Scouts will be divided into three groups to rotate through a series of activities; each activity designed to meet the Building a Better Future Project patch requirements. Participants complete activities in four areas: Skill Builder, Career Exploration, Technology, and Community Service. Since the program is co-sponsored by the Society of Women Engineers-UMCP Section, participants earn the Building a Better Future Project patch and the Society of Women Engineers-Girl Scout Event patch.
Who can attend?
Cadettes and Seniors (grades 7-12) are invited to apply to the program, though the program content is geared more towards Cadettes.
Cost
There is a $10 registration fee for each participant to cover lunch and the cost of patches.
Please do not include the fee with the registration form. Send all checks made payable to the “University of Maryland” with the permission slips after being accepted to the program.
Please note that because of high program interest we are only able to accommodate a limited number of participants. You will be notified upon acceptance to the program and provided additional program details regarding payment and permission forms as well as directions to campus and the program schedule.

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, September 23, 2009
Registration for GSES is on a first come, first serve basis. Please submit the completed Registration Form as soon as possible, once registration is open ,to secure your space in this program. Previous programs have filled up well before the registration deadline. This website will indicate when all program spaces are filled. Please do not include the fee with the registration form. You will be notified upon acceptance to the program.
At this time, we can only accomodate up to five participants per troop.
Parent/Guardian Permission Form
**** EACH participant MUST submit a completed TWO Parental Permission Forms.****
- Parent Permission Form for the University of Maryland
- Parent Permission Form for Girl Scouts
This form may be mailed with the Registration Fee or completed during check-in. Scouts without a completed permission form signed by a parent will not be allowed to stay for the program.
