Middle School: Girl Scout Engineering Saturday

Program Overview

Girl Scout Engineering Saturday (GSES) is a program for local Girl Scout troops in Maryland and the Washington metropolitan area. Cadettes (grades 6-8) engage in fun hands-on activities and earn the Women in Engineering Girl Scout Engineering Saturday patch. This program is offered in October.

Goals of GSES

  • To expose Girl Scouts to engineering related activities
  • To introduce young women to professional career options in engineering and science
  • To provide university students with opportunities to develop and implement engineering related activities, and to enhance communication and leadership skills

Who can attend?

Girl Scout Cadettes (grades 6-8) are invited to apply for the program. 

Girl Scout Engineering Staturday Program Date 

The next program is scheduled for October 14th, 2017. 

Program Schedule

patchThe GSES program will begin at 10:00am and conclude at 2:30pm. The Girl Scouts will be divided into three groups to rotate through a series of activities; each activity designed to increase awareness of a different type of engineering discipline.  Participants will earn a special program patch.

Registration for the Fall 2017 GSES event date is now open!

Registration for Girl Scout Engineering Saturday is on a first come, first served basis. Please note that because of high program interest, we are only able to accommodate a limited number of participants. Once the participant has been registered and payment has been received, you will be provided with additional program details regarding permission forms, directions to campus, and the program schedule.

Cost

There is a $20.00 registration fee for each participant to cover the cost of lunch, patches, and activity supplies. Upon the completion and submission of registration, you will be asked to submit a payment of $20.00. If you are unable to pay $20.00 at the time of registration please inform Ivan Lamas-Sanchez at ilamassa@umd.edu.

Program Application

**** EACH participant MUST submit a completed Parental Permission Form upon acceptance.****

This form must be handed in during the check in process on the day of the event. Girl Scouts without a completed permission form signed by a parent will not be allowed to stay for the program.
